Interview with the Artist

  1. What inspired you to create this piece?  I have always loved calendars and agendas. However, 2018 was an incredibly tough year for me with the passage of time. My boyfriend was moving away, and I was soon to move away. I caught myself in the corner of the room frequently marking my calendar with positive memories, still in worry about what was to come next.

  2. How did the color scheme and layout play a role in creating this art piece? This piece was the first in a series called “My Primary Memories.” They are all primary colors and core memories before the age of 18.

  3. What story is your art piece telling? The piece is depicting one of the many moments of worry for the future.

  4. How does this artwork represent your background? It only shows my attachment to time as well as my love for art, which is also in my room. However, my Latina culture is not reflected in the piece.

  5. What emotion or message are you trying to convey with this art piece? That it is ok to feel, and the worry will come.

Editorial Notes:

“The theme as a whole gives the feeling of solitude with hope or escapism”

“I love the colors on this art piece. It gives it an emotional aspect. It makes you think what this piece is portraying by the girl sitting facing with her back towards the audience along with all the other pictures being shown that she is painting.”

Team Judgement:

We believe this artist did an excellent job with their piece in the following categories: Craftsmanship, Originality, Relatable and Relevance.
