A Dream Come Blue

Before capturing this photo I was not aware that blue bees even existed. I have only ever seen bees that are black and yellow. Once I saw this bee I knew I had to take a picture. After taking the photo I learned that this bee is called a Blue Orchard Mason Bee and can easily be identified by it's metallic blue color. Another thing that I learned is that this bee is insanely fast! It took me over a hundred tries to take a picture because it never stopped moving.

About the Artist, Ly’Annette Montanez

Ly’Annette Montanez majors in Psychology and minors is in Business Marketing but in the past year has realized that she has a strong interest in photography. She attends UIW full time and if everything continues to go well she will graduate at the end of next year, Spring 2024. She is relatively new to the world of photography but so far she has felt nothing but immense satisfaction and passion for photo taking. She has always enjoyed taking pictures in her free time but this semester is the first time that she is taking a photography class. Having the guidance of an instructor has helped her to understand what is needed for a photo to be interesting and visually striking. Her instructor is incredibly knowledgeable about photography and she knows many famous photographers and their work. One of Ly’Annette’s favorite things that her instructor does is when she compares individual students' work to well known photographers and shows the similarities between the two photographing styles. It feels very validating to know that a photo she take as a student has some kind of resemblance to a famous artist, and for her to recognize that in students is very motivating.

Thanks to her, Ly’Annette has had the confidence to submit her photos to this platform.
