Interview with the Artist

1. What was your inspiration for this piece?

My inspiration for these comics was when my brother, sister and I had gotten into a serious car accident this past February. I'm on my final semester of college, but in the moment it was all I could think about. For one of my classes, we had an assignment where we could either write an essay or draw a 3 to 9 page comic. I wasn't feeling up to writing, and I had been meaning to get back in to drawing, so it felt like the perfect excuse.

2. What is your creative process? (How do you go about creating?)

Easy, step one: have an obsession. At the time, the car accident was my obsession, so I drew from that. I had a rough idea of what I wanted storyboard-wise for each comic, but made minor adjustments here and there as I went.

3. What are some influences on your artistic process?

My teachers are a big part of my artistic influence right now. I'm taking writing classes, so I'm writing to fulfill a prompt, after all.
