“I love you” were the words that you spoke
And I said “Do you though?”
Making you wonder if it were merely a joke.
Those words I say,
the ones you assume out of mirth,
were born from a doubt
with an endless girth.
“I love you,” you say.
Did you mean the blues and greens of the sea
that's reflected in my eyes,
or my petulant lips,
that whisper of such sweet demise?
Did you mean my body,
with its soft curves,
or maybe my humor
that's a little bit disturbed?
Do you mean that darkness inside,
born from another's intent,
so deep and dark that just as you thought it ended,
you find it has a basement?
When you say that you love me,
and I ask what you mean,
just know that there's been history
with people whose intentions were never clean.
1. What inspired you to start writing poetry? Are there any specific poets or writers that inspire you to write?
I can't say for certain what motivated me to start writing poetry. It'd always come naturally, like I was meant to write it. Perhaps it was the way that the words had flowed so neatly into a work that could vaguely hint at what I'm truly feeling.
2. What is the biggest challenge in your creative process?
My biggest challenge in my writing process is finding a word to match the rhyme pattern while meaning the same thing I want it to.
3. Is there a reoccurring or central theme to your work?
I would claim there isn't a reoccurring theme in my poetry, but to be honest, most of my poetry comes from things from my past and emotions I don't know what to do with.
4. What do you think are important elements in effective, thought-provoking poems?
Important elements in an effective, thought-provoking poem would be hidden meanings. A poem can be simple, or it can be an insanely complex riddle or puzzle, such as Edgar Allan Poe's Annabelle Lee.
5. What role do you think poetry plays in our society today?
Though most people aren't aware of it, poetry still plays a part in society today through music. Some song lyrics are poems, only musical.
