Hidden
Those hidden in the shadows,
Hidden from sight,
The people no one look for,
Are the strongest.
They have stripes no one can see,
They have pushed through,
Even when the world shouts,
They keep fighting.
They know what it’s like,
To be misunderstood,
To be unheard,
To worry if they have a future.
The best thing we can do,
Try to understand,
Make them seen,
Make them feel like they belong,
Let them know you care.
Interview with the Author
1. What inspired you to write this piece? What was your thought process throughout?
My poem highlights what it is like to live with a rare disease. It showssome of the struggles I have faced that others might have too, but may not be able to explain.
2. What do you hope readers will take away from your piece? What effects do you want the piece to have on the person, community, or society?
This is my chance to spread awareness about rare diseases where others can’t. My goal was to bring encouragement to the 3% of people worldwide to keep looking for the good side, because everything happens for a reason. Wherever you stand on this topic, this is a call to
action to spread kindness, because you never know what someone has been through.
3. If you plan on continuing to write, what are some goals/plans you may have for your future?
I hope to continue writing about some of these experiences to help people who are going through a hard time.
